Chicago-based innovative electronic music label subVariant will release a free-to-download compliation called Frequencity featuring quality songs from Chicagoland musicians. Earlier this year subVariant released a public call for electronic music from area musicians, without restriction on the genre. In response, a dozen tracks were chosen that represented high quality perspectives on the medium from a talented group of musicians.

As a sample, Ukrainian Village-based Beanbake opens up the compilation with a grandiose, uplifting track that makes you feel as though you were biking along Lake Shore Drive with a gentle breeze at your back and no joggers to evade. Ella Laurence from the far Northwest side made her classic acid track, “aaaAAH” with the help of her dad, Eric. “Big deal,” you say, right? Oh, did I mention that Ella was 9 months old at the time? Drasla takes Beethoven’s “Moonlight Sonata” and twists it into a deeply textured, evocative, IDM-tinged spin on classical from his Chicago base. Elock ends the compilation on a bleepy, squelchy, modulated lo-fi high note with his over the top chiptune party jam, “Ari On Acid.” All this amazingness is delivered to worldwide ears from a select group of people who call Chicago their home.

On Wednesday, November 16, five of the artists will play at Darkroom (2210 W Chicago Ave Chicago): XYZR_KX,
Belmont & Clark, Beanbake, Foe Paw, and [esc]APE.

TRACKLIST:
01. Beanbake: “A Bicycle In Your Mind” [Melodic Electronica]

[esc]ape Bio

The main intent of [esc]ape is be an outlet to create original “audio art” amplifying a wake up for the human mind. This avant-garde dynamic duo started in ‘99 as fans of electronica and promoters of underground events in Chicago. In the early 2000′s they spent numerous hours among DJs and producers watching, listening, and contributing to mixes and performances. In 2004 a close friend. provided these two with Reason (ver 2.5) & after experimenting with the program the duo concentrated their development in a direction geared toward sound art & began to utilize nontraditional sound manipulation techniques altering the structure of sounds and blending organic elements to infuse with their audible conceptualized art and sequenced drum patterns.. After [esc]ape joined with Kompute Musik in 2008 their first original song for the Kompute Kompliation II album was released in 2008. The 1st EP was released May of 2010. [esc]ape has worked on remixes for such artists
as: Future Forward Society, Mt. Sims, Crystal Castles, and Board of Education.

We have been blessed with a wide range of exposure in music, art, and talented artists for inspiration.
